[OCT. 18, 2006]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Extension to sponsor bingo

The Logan County Extension Unit will sponsor the bingo games that begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at The Oasis. Come join the fun and win food prizes.

Alzheimer support group to meet

The Alzheimer support group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in library at the senior center. No reservation is necessary. The group provides support and information for caregivers and extended family. It is facilitated by a coordinator from Maple Ridge Care Centre.

Board meeting open to the public

The Oasis board meeting for October is open to the public and is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Thursday. To schedule any agenda item, the board must receive notification in writing on or before the fifth day of the month prior to a meeting date.

Notice of board of directors election

A nominating committee has been appointed and empowered by the board of directors to present candidates to serve on board of directors for the senior center for a three-year term. Members wishing to present candidate names for consideration must do so in writing, and submissions must be delivered to The Oasis or postmarked by Nov. 1. The nominating committee will review each candidate prior to Dec. 7.

AARP safe driving class

A one-day driver safety program will be offered Oct. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for seniors age 55 and older. The eight-hour course is presented under the supervision of the Illinois secretary of state's office. Call 732-6132 to make a reservation.

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for Oct. 24 will feature pasta bake, salad, garlic bread and a dessert for only $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. Deadline is noon Monday.

Winners for the week announced

Henry Warnisher, Larry Van Bibber and Mina Bradburn were the weekday pinochle winners. The weekend pinochle winners were Esther Will and Helen Opperman. Winners for five-in-one were Bernie DePuy and Linda Hughes. Rummy winner was Ruth Barry. Congratulations.

Fall card party winners

Gladys Edwards (6,550), Esther Will (6,180) and Henry Warnisher (6,170) were the pinochle winners at the fall card party. Charlene Bower, Bernie DePuy and Barbara Sheehan were the bridge winners. Ruth Barry, Ella Lee Graney and Betty Burger were the rummy winners. Congratulations.

Door prize winners were Dorothy Haseley, Charlene Bower, Bernie DePuy, Virginia Malerich and Henry Warnisher.
