During the Abraham Lincoln National Railsplitting Contest and Crafts Festival

Logan Railsplitting Association and Lincoln Sportsmen's Club to host trap shoot         

[SEPT. 16, 2006]  The Lincoln Sportsmen's Club has teamed up with the Logan Railsplitting Association to host the first-ever Captain Bogardus Trap Shoot during the 36th annual Abraham Lincoln National Railsplitting Contest and Crafts Festival. The trap shoot will be on Saturday, with registration beginning at 12:15 and the competition starting at 12:30.

Capt. Adam H. Bogardus is possibly one of the best-known trap shooters in history. He traveled with the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show as a sharpshooter, was named the champion wing shot of the world in 1876 and is even credited with inventing a trap thrower designed to throw glass targets.

Bogardus is buried in Elkhart, and the trap shoot at the Lincoln Sportsmen's Club is in his honor. A Bogardus descendent, Bob McCue, will portray the captain at the opening ceremony.

There will be two different events and three classes available: muzzleloaders, old-style shotgun and modern.

The entry fee for the 10-bird meat shoot will be $3.50 per person. The first-place winner will receive steaks, chicken and roast beef. Bacon and sausage will be presented to the person in second place. The 25-bird derby winners will receive trophies.
