During the Abraham Lincoln National Railsplitting Contest and Crafts Festival

Free bluegrass concert         

[SEPT. 16, 2006]  Come on out to the fairgrounds on Saturday to enjoy a free bluegrass concert from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Abraham Lincoln National Railsplitting Contest and Crafts Festival. Leftover Biscutz, featuring Danny Tackett, will open the performance from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by Long Creek from the Decatur area.

Leftover Biscutz, a left-of-center bluegrass group, will perform songs from its first CD, which is self-titled "Leftover Biscutz." The five-member group from central Illinois mixes traditional bluegrass with the not-so-traditional in its repertoire. The band's song list includes tunes penned by bluegrass icons Bill Monroe and Ralph Stanley, but it also contains songs made popular by the likes of pop artists Santana and Jimmy Buffet and country music legends Ernest Tubb and Eddie Arnold.

The Long Creek Bluegrass Band will perform from 8 to 10 p.m. on Saturday. This band is made up of four members: Keith Johnson on guitar, Jacquie Johnson on upright bass, Doug Johnson on banjo and Johnny Martin on mandolin. They all take turns singing lead or harmony, and they play only traditional bluegrass and gospel music. Music has been a part of their lives from a young age. They have performed at fairs, bluegrass festivals, private parties, town celebrations, weddings and funerals across the mid-central states. They especially enjoy doing all-gospel music concerts in churches. They have one tape and three different CDs.

This concert is not one you will want to miss. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets.
