Apr 2  Blood Drive.  Come give the gift of life at the Lincoln Masonic Center (located at 2022 N. Kickapoo Street) from Noon until 6:00pm.  This blood drive is sponsored by Lincoln Women's Club and Lincoln Jr. Women's Club.  All blood collected at this blood drive supports Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Apr 7  Lincoln Speedway Presentation.  Come on out to the Lincoln Speedway for their Opening Night presentation.  Visit www.lincolnspeedway.org for more information.

Apr 12 – 15  Mystery Ink:  “The Farmer in the Well”.  How about a Mystery in the Country?  The Rise and Shine Bed and Breakfast invite guests to enjoy country life while solving a mystery.  Performers from the big city arrive to help as innkeeper Martha Bates cooks up fine home cooking.  Before long guests may have two mysteries to solve.  It’s the usual good fun from Mystery Ink with a twist or two along the path to the well.  Friday & Saturday the doors will open at 6:30 PM (show at 7:00 PM), and Sunday the doors will open at 1:00 PM (show at 1:30 PM).  Tickets are $35 each and seniors are $32 each.  Group rates will be $30 for ten or more.  This includes a three-course meal of fresh baked bread, salad, entrée choice, and desserts.  Coffee/tea, tax, and gratuity are included.  Cash bar available.  For reservations, call 217-732-6102.  For more information, please visit www.mysteryinkproductions.com .

Apr 13  Carroll Catholic Alumni Basketball Game Attention Carroll Catholic Alumni!  Do you remember the old tile floor in Carroll’s gym?  The one that everyone complained about?  Well, if you haven’t been to Carroll School in awhile, you’ll be surprised to see a new wood floor that is fantastic!  We thought it would be a great idea to get some “old” Carroll ballplayers and their cheerleaders and lots of their fans together to play on that new floor.  On Friday, April 13, we will be hosting the first Alumni Game on the new Carroll wood floor.  We are inviting any past graduates of Carroll School to participate (we need lots of fans, too).  We will play from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., followed by food and refreshments at the Knights of Columbus Hall.  Even if you are not up to the challenge of playing, we still need lots of fans to root them on!  Please contact us at basketball@holyfamily.com if you are interested.  We would like you to give us your home address and email address, so that we can contact you as plans develop.  Please RSVP no later than March 30.  You can also call the school at 732-7518 and leave a message for either John K or Anne S.  See you there!

Apr 19  Business Development Seminar.  Do you have a business idea?  Are you planning a business?  Are you opening or expanding a business?  We will help you get there!  Come over to Elizabeth’s Tea Room (123 S. Apr 25  Christian Women’s Conference.  Lincoln Christian College and Seminary is hosting a Christian Women’s Conference Wed. Apr 28  Family Fun Fly.  The Lincoln Church of the Nazarene (2501 Woodlawn Rd.) would like to invite everyone to their Family Fun Fly.  Come and fly kites with the kids and learn more about kite flying.  Kites of all shapes and sizes are welcome.  The whole family is invited to this special event.  It will be held on April 28, 2007 from 1 PM to 4 PM.  For more information, please call 217-732-8362.

Apr 28  Cruise In.  The Railsplitter Antique Auto Club will once again be hosting their monthly classic car cruise ins on the downtown Lincoln square.  They will be held from 5 PM to 9 PM, on the fourth Saturday of the month, starting in April and ending in September.

May 12  YMCA Kids Day Event.  The Lincoln Area YMCA will host a family fun event from 12:30 to 3:00 at the Y-Activity Center on Wyatt Avenue.  Come enjoy kids games, contests, prize drawings, sports fun, bake sale, chili cook off, and a special outdoor bingo event.  Children must be accompanied by parent.  For more information, please call 217-735-3915.

May 12  Young Eagles Day.  The Heritage In-Flight Museum will be holding a Young Eagles Day at the Logan County Airport.  The EAA Young Eagles program was launched in 1992 to give interested young people, ages 8 - 17, an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers. Call 217-732-3333 for more information.

May 29 – Jul 21  Lincoln Public Library District Summer Reading Program 2007 Mission READ: to the Library and Beyond! Will begin with a sign-up week May 29 – June 2.  During sign-p week a  “Library Astronaut Training” will be held.  Children will be able to visit stations to “test” their outer-space abilities.  Stations will include “Moon Rocks,” “Manipulation,” “Control Station,” and “Moon Walk.”  All astronauts will receive a certificate of Completion in the “Library Astronaut School” and get a picture taken in the “rocket.”  The entire Summer Reading Program will run through July 21st.

Jun 2  “Route 66 Trail-Breaking” National Trails Day.  Be a part of history on National Trails Day 2007.  Bicyclists and other “trail-breakers” will traverse the entire 369 miles of Illinois’ new Route 66 Trail, a route of quieter roads and trails showing off the best of the old “Mother Road.”  The event will highlight bike tourism on the Route 66 Trail while giving a boost for road and trail improvements along the way.  How it Works:  Bicyclists and other users will each ride one of the 13 legs of the Route 66 Trail, simultaneously covering the entire distance of the route.  They will converge at six different Route 66 towns, where ceremonies will be held at noon.  The segments from Lincoln are Lincoln to Bloomington (46 Miles) or Lincoln to Springfield (39 Miles).  Find out more about this event from the flier included in your calendar!

Jun 9 & 10  Broadwell’s 150th Birthday Celebration.  The Village of Broadwell will be celebrating their 150th Birthday on June 9 & 10, 2007 with fun and excitement.  Ernie Edwards, owner and manager of the Pig Hip Museum, has promised a surprise for guests.  Could it be the world famous P.H.S???  Ernie has also invited everyone to share in his birthday cake.  More details on this event will be coming soon.

Jun 9 & 10  Logan County Route 66 Garage Sale.  Come on out and display your wares and buy your treasures at the countywide Rt. 66 Garage Sale from 8 AM to 4 PM. Make stops in Atlanta, Lawndale, Lincoln, Broadwell and Elkhart. Jun 15 – 17, 2007  Middletown Terquasquicentennial (175th Birthday Party).  This historic celebration will be held in Middletown, Illinois to celebrate the 175th Birthday of the city.  A carnival has been secured for the weekend, as well as local band Saturday Night Special (for Saturday Night).  Come on out and enjoy the parade, Half Marathon foot race, Alumni reception, Antique Car and Tractor Show, Historical Displays, Petting Zoo, Art and Craft Booths, Food, Fireworks and much more.  How would you like to win a 2007 Pontiac G-6?  Get involved with the raffle now, tickets only $20 each!!!  The Middletown Methodist Church will be hosting a pork chop supper on Saturday evening, and on Sunday, the Presbyterian Church will be holding a broasted chicken lunch.  Advanced orders of embroidered ball caps and t-shirts will begin soon.  Keep watching the calendar for more information about this party!  Check out the Middletown Terquasquicentennial webpage:  www.geocities.com/middletown175.

Jun 24  Vintage Style Show.  The Mount Pulaski Township Historical Society is proud to present it's third Annual Vintage Style Show Sunday, June 24th at the American Legion.  The luncheon/style show's theme for 2007 is "Sunday in the Park".  Tickets are $20 and anyone interested in being a hostess of a table of eight, please call 792-3436.  Also, anyone with vintage fashions including wedding gowns, mother of the bride/groom, bridesmaid, prom fashions we can model please contact us!  If you collect anything of fashion:  hatpins, purses, shoes; we'd love to have you display your items.  Doors will open at 12:30 for guests to admire the table settings and displays with the luncheon being served at 1pm.

Aug 24 – 26  Lincoln Art and Balloon FestivalCome out to the Logan County Airport to experience the beauty and wonder of Hot Air Balloons in flight or catch an evening glow.  Enjoy the carnival rides, food concessions, Blue Skies beer garden, expanded Artisan Expo, Aeronautical displays, IL Army National Guard Static Display, Heritage in Flight Museum, Souvenir booth, or Bocce Ball tournament.  Downtown, in Latham Park, browse the prestigious juried Art Fair.  There will also be a children’s art tent and Kickapoo Kingdom will be filled with a carousel, inflatable attractions, interactive games and more food concessions.  Around town you may choose to enjoy a car cruise-in, Antique & Flea market, used book sale, or 1800’s craft show.  There is something for everyone.  For more information or for sponsorship opportunities, please call 217.735.2385.  Watch www.lincolnillinois.com for a detailed schedule.

Aug 26  1800’s Craft Fair.  Postville Courthouse will once again be hosting their 1800’s Craft Fair on the final day of the Lincoln Art and Balloon Festival.  The Public is invited to come and see 19th century crafters from surrounding areas demonstrating their skills.  Local crafters are also included.  Music and other entertainment will be provided.  Call 217-732-8930 or 217-737-0979 for more information.

Sep 1 Steak Sandwich Fundraiser Sale. Habitat for Humanity will sell steak sandwiches at the Lincoln IGA from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday of Labor Day weekend. This is a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity of Logan County.

Oct 13 Habitat for Humanity Annual Recognition Dinner / Dance. Habitat for Humanity will hold the dinner/dance at the American Legion on 5th Street in Lincoln. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner is served at 6:00, and the recognition program and the dance are at 7:00. Music is provided by The Turner Trio. In addition to recognizing those who have been significant supporters of Habitat during the year, this event is also a fund raiser for Habitat. Tickets may be purchased in advance at A.G. Apr 16  LCGHS Meeting.  The April 16, 2007 program, "My Civil War Picture Collection" will be presented by Darlene Crider at 6:30 p.m. at 114 N. Chicago St. in Lincoln.  Visitors are welcome.  "This is My Stroy" Volume 2 Veteran book is ready to order.  You may call 217-732-3200 for information.  This volume includes 365 pages of Logan County Veterans' personal stories and pictures.  The book includes local veteran organizations and memorials and would be a good addition to your library.  We have several CDs for sale.  The newest is a CD of Stringers 1911 History of Logan County book.

Apr 19  Lincoln Jaycee’s Meeting.  The Lincoln Jaycees will be meeting on the third Thursday of every month at 7 PM at the Moose Lodge. Guests and those interested in joining are welcome to attend!  More information can be found at www.lincolnjaycees.com.

 

May 21 LCGHS Meeting.  Logan County Genealogical and Historical Society will meet on May 21, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at 114 N. Chicago St. in Lincoln, Il.  Mrs. Ed Carter will show and tell about her collection of Civil War pictures.  West Lincoln and Broadwell Townships will be featured in the Society newsletter and information is being collected for future historical reference.  If anyone has information that they would like included, please submit the information by May 15, 2007, so the information can be included in the upcoming newsletter.

 

Jun 18  LCGHS Meeting.  Logan County Genealogical and Historical Society will meet on June 18, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at 114 N. Chicago St. in Lincoln, Il. Galen Wickline will speak about "How to Preserve Archival Mateials".  We have several CD's available.   Such as: Cemetery Index,  Atlas,  Stringer Logan County History of 1878 and Stringer Logan County History of 1911.
