[April 11, 2007]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Poison prevention

Camille Wissman, a doctor of pharmacology, will speak on poison prevention for seniors as well as children. This free opportunity at the senior center will be on Thursday, beginning at 10 a.m. Her discussion will reveal facts about how and when seniors or their grandchildren can become a victim of accidental poisoning, carbon monoxide poisoning and pet poisoning. Become an informed person in your family concerning these matters.

Oasis potluck

Join us at 11:30 a.m. Thursday for the monthly potluck, featuring Cornish hens with wild rice or stuffing, special dishes, salads and desserts. There is no charge for food or beverage provided at this event. If you did not bring a dish to pass and wish to make a donation, the suggested amount is $3. Stay for bingo games, sponsored by the Christian Village. Don Panchito's sponsors this month's lunch drawing. Last month's winner was Charlotte Gaither. Our winners for the grocery raffle were Dick Logan and Eliot Ebelherr. Come join the fun and win some prizes!

April birthday party

Birthday time! Come celebrate April birthdays with us at The Oasis on Monday, beginning at 1:30 p.m. There will be games, prizes, entertainment, and cake and ice cream. Bring a friend and come join the fun.

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for April 17 features pork barbecue sandwich, french fries, green beans, dessert and a drink for $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. Reservation deadline is noon Monday.

Winners for the week announced

Mina Bradburn and Betty Oltmanns won the weekday pinochle card game. Les Van Bibber and Larry Van Bibber were the weekend winners for pinochle. Betty Burger and Bernie DePuy won five-in-five. The rummy winner was Dorothy Oltmanns. Congratulations!
