The 44th District senator
released details of local projects included in Illinois' $1.875
billion road plan for fiscal 2008, which starts July 1, 2007 (see
previous
related article). The six-year plan also includes an additional
$122.877 million for local roads and bridges. "Transportation
officials are calling this a maintenance budget, saying there is not
funding sufficient for new construction. No mention, however, of the
$1.4 billion taken from the Road Fund by the Blagojevich
administration to pay the state's day-to-day bills," Brady said.
"That $1.4 billion should have been spent on repairing our roads and
bridges, building new roads to reduce traffic congestion, and
providing road construction jobs."
