[August 01, 2007]  SPRINGFIELD -- State Sens. Larry Bomke, R-Springfield, and John O Jones, R-Mount Vernon, introduced an amendment to Senate Bill 1114, which would keep the state of Illinois operating after the current one-month budget expires Aug. 1.

"Many schools are at risk since they are scheduled to start this month. It is increasingly important that we provide the much-needed peace of mind to all educational and state employees that they will be paid on time for all of their hard work and dedication," Bomke said.

"I want to reassure all of the constituents of our districts that we are working toward a solution that will enable state services to be continued until the Chicago leadership shows responsibility and passes a 12-month budget that encourages Illinois to live within its means," Jones said.

Senate Bill 1114 will fund general state operations at the same levels that were approved for the current one-month budget that took effect July 1. The legislation also covers one month of critical state-aid payments that are necessary for school districts to open their doors on time.
