A cold front is expected to move through the Great Lakes and central Plains regions, bringing showers and thunderstorms with it.
Warm temperatures are likely to continue in the Northeast.
Meanwhile, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the Southwest, Great Basin and Rocky Mountains. These slow-moving storms could pose problems in the Southwest, where the soil can't handle much rainfall.
Temperatures in the Southeast and Southwest are expected to be in the 90s and 100s, while the Northeast and Northwest should see temperatures in the 80s and 90s. In the Plains, temperatures are expected to range from the 70s in the north to the 90s in the south.
Temperatures in the lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of 33 degrees at Meacham, Ore., to a high of 108 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
