[August 06, 2007]  The following recalls were issued the week ending Aug. 4 by various federal and state agencies.

SHERWIN-WILLIAMS AEROSOL CANS AND EXPLODE

The Sherwin-Williams Co. is recalling Hi-Heat Aerosol Coating Cans sold nationwide from August 2005 to June 2007. The aerosol cans can over-pressurize and explode, posing a risk of injury to consumers.

 

The recall involves Thermo-Tec Hi-Heat aerosol coating used to color and protect Thermo-Tec automotive exhaust wrap. The part number (#12002) is printed above the UPC, and the date code (#B1815) is written on the bottom of the can. The 11-ounce aerosol can is mostly blue with orange and yellow flames and has an aluminum-colored cap. The can states "HI-HEAT COATING 2000°F" in large white letters on the front of the can.

 

Consumers should contact Sherwin-Williams at (800) 523-9299 between 7:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. CT Saturday and a representative will be dispatched within 48 hours to safely collect the recalled cans. SANDAL CLOGS POSE FALL HAZARD

Hanna Andersson Inc. is recalling Birchwood Sole Sandal Clogs sold nationwide from January 2007 to July 2007. The leather ankle strap can tear or separate from the clog sole, posing a fall hazard.

 

The recalled sandals have a birchwood sole and leather straps. They come in different colors (blue, pink and black) and were sold in European sizes 25-41. The words "Hanna Andersson" and "Made in Sweden" are printed on the sole.

SAFETY RELIEF PLUGS CAN BURST

Rehvac Manufacturing is recalling Relief Plugs Used on Nitrous Oxide Systems and HVAC Service Tools sold nationwide from August 2006 to June 2007. The safety relief plug can allow pressure to build in the cylinder of an HVAC pressure testing tool or Nitrous Oxide system. If the cylinder is overfilled and overheated it can burst, posing an injury hazard to consumers.

 

This recall involves the 3000 psi safety plugs used in the cylinders of Nitrous Oxide systems and in HVAC pressure testing tools. The Nitrous Oxide systems are used as gas boosters for motor vehicles. The plugs are nickel-plated. The number "3000" is stamped on the face of the plug.

AIR FILTRATION SYSTEMS CAN OVERHEAT

Trane is recalling Stand-alone CleanEffects and AccuClean Air Filtration Systems sold nationwide from December 2005 to June 2007. Electrical arcing inside the collection cells can cause the collection cell material to overheat or ignite, posing a fire hazard.

 

The recall involves whole-house air filtration units that were installed with consumers’ air handlers or furnaces. They were sold as the Trane CleanEffects and the American Standard AccuClean systems. The recall involves air filtration systems with serial numbers prior to 7222*****. A list of the model numbers can be found at www.recalls.org. The serial and model numbers are located on the inside of the door of the air cleaning units. 

 

Affected consumers will be notified directly about receiving a free replacement collection cell.

WINDOW BLINDS SOLD AT LOWE'S

 

Springs Window Fashions LLC is recalling Basic Blindz® Window Blinds sold exclusively at Lowe's stores from March 2007 to July 2007. The window blinds have a pull cord that is looped, posing a strangulation hazard.

 

This recall involves two inch Natural Faux Wood Plantation Blinds sold under the Basic Blindz® brand. Stickers inside the top rail state: "Springs Window Fashion LLC, Middleton, WI 53562," "Made in China," and "Manufacturing Date Code." Blinds with manufacturing date codes JX, JY, JZ, KO, KP, KQ, KR, KS, and KT are included in the recall.

LOSS OF STEERING ON GOLF CARS 

 

Club Car Inc. is recalling Golf Cars; Rough Terrain Vehicles; and Hospitality, Utility & Transport Vehicles sold nationwide from April 2007 to July 2007. The steering gear assembly can fail, resulting in an unexpected loss of steering control, posing a risk of injury to the driver and passenger.

 

The recall involves various 2007 model year gasoline or electric-powered vehicles used for transportation around golf courses, hotels, resorts, airports and residential communities. Vehicles can be identified by the serial number located above and to the right of the accelerator pedal.

BICYCLES' FORKS CAN BREAK

 

Raleigh America Inc. is recalling 2007 Raleigh Cadent Bicycles with Carbonage Carbon Forks sold nationwide from January 2007 to June 2007. The forks can break during normal use, causing the rider to lose control, fall and suffer serious injuries.

 

The recall involves the 2007 Raleigh Cadent 1.0, Cadent 2.0 and Cadent Carbon bicycle models with carbon forks. "Raleigh" is printed on the down tube of the bicycle, and the model name is printed on the top tube.

 

Consumers should return the bicycles to place of purchase.

TOYS SOLD WITH SLEEPING BAGS

 

The Orvis Company is recalling Stuffed Plush Horse/Pillows and Fairy Dolls sold with sleeping bags sold nationwide from September 2006 to December 2006. The plastic button eyes on the stuffed horse and the pompom nose on the fairy doll toy can easily detach, posing a small parts choking hazard.

 

Description:

Stuffed Horse: The plush brown horse/pillow was sold as an accessory with the purchase of a Horse Animal Sleeping Bag. The horse pillow has outstretched fore and back legs, a bushy black mane and tail and attaches to the sleeping bag with a hook/loop attachment on the belly of the horse. 

Fairy Doll: The Fairy Doll toy was sold as an accessory with the purchase of a Unicorn Animal Sleeping Bag. The stuffed fairy doll has a sewn-on pompom nose, a pink satin dress with glitter netting as a ruffled collar, sleeves and dress apron.

FISHER-PRICE CHARACTER TOYS CONTAIN LEAD 

Fisher-Price Inc. is recalling  Sesame Street, Dora the Explorer, and other children’s toys sold nationwide from May 2007 to August 2007. Surface paints on the toys could contain excessive levels of lead. 

The recalled involves various figures and toys that were manufactured between April 19, 2007 and July 6, 2007 and were sold alone or as part of sets. The model names and product numbers for the recalled toys, which are all marked with "Fisher-Price," can be found at www.recalls.org. The toys may have a date code between 109-7LF and 187-7LF marked on the product or packaging.
