Some of the storms on the East Coast could become severe, especially in the New York City area, with large hail, high wind and tornados possible. Heavy rain at minimum was expected in the
mid-Atlantic and central Appalachians.
In the northern Plains, severe thunderstorms were expected. Thunderstorms will likely also develop across the Dakotas and into Nebraska. These storms likely will include some large hail and gusty wind.
The heat and humidity will likely cause unhealthy conditions for children and the elderly.
Cooler weather will be in store for the West as a cool trough sits over the region. This trough will also bring more fog to the Pacific coast.
Temperatures in the lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of 26 degrees at Elk City, Idaho, to a high of 118 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
