Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also likely in the Midwest, as a stationary front cuts across the mid-Mississippi Valley and central Plains and a low pressure system pushes into the region. Strong storms are expected to move eastward from South Dakota and Nebraska into Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana later in the day.
Showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely in the Southeast and parts of the
mid-Atlantic and lower Mississippi Valley regions.
Moisture is expected to continue moving from Mexico into parts of the Southwest, leading to scattered storms later Wednesday.
A heat wave that stretched from the central and southern Plains to the Eastern Seaboard early in the week is expected to persist at least through Thursday, bringing temperatures in the 90s and high humidity.
Temperatures in the lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 27 degrees at Chemult, Ore., to a high of 110 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
