[August 09, 2007]  (AP) Cooler air was expected to swoop from Canada into New England on Thursday as a low pressure system exits the Northeast.

Rain was forecast for the Great Lakes, Upper Mississippi Valley and Ohio Valley. The system also was expected to bring showers to southern New England and the mid-Atlantic in the afternoon and evening.

Scattered showers were forecast for the Southeast Coast and Florida as well as in parts of the Southwest and Great Basin.

Cooler temperatures were anticipated in the Northwest.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of 28 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 110 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
