MOUNT PULASKI -- Duane E.
Copeland, 82, of Mount Pulaski died at 6:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug.
10, 2007 at Vonderlieth Living Center. |
Visitation is from 5 – 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13 at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount
Pulaski.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at
the funeral home. Dr. Marion Henderson will preside.
Internment will be at Steenbergen Cemetery with full
military rites accorded.
Mr. Copeland farmed for 50 years in Logan and
Sangamon Counties.
He was born to Donald C. and Helen Haynes Copeland
on Nov. 27, 1924 in Mount Pulaski. He married Rue
Evelyn McKinley on Dec. 28, 1947 in Chestnut.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Rue Evelyn;
one son, Michael (Susie) Copeland of Kenney; two
daughters, Judy (Brian) Piersma of Sherman and
Barbara Elaine Aumiller of Wheaton; grandchildren
B.J., Kinney and Michael Aumiller of Wheaton, Andy
(Jennifer) of Mahomet, Jason of Champaign and Kelley
Copeland of Mount Pulaski and Derek Piersma of
Springfield and Kristin (Lt. Andrew) Myatt and
children Gavin and Emma Rue of Westerville, OH; also
two brothers, Sheldon Copeland of Bloomington and
Bill Copeland of Granbury, TX; three sisters, Mryna
Hanlin of Bloomington, Glenda Copeland of
Shreveport, LA; eight grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Copeland was a United States Navy veteran
serving during WWII in the Phillipines.
He was a member of Lincoln Christian Church.
His hobbies were music and working with wood. He was
involved in different areas of music, playing
trombone in the high school and legion bands,
singing in church and community choirs, worship
leader in the church. His favorite was singing with
the Decatur Greater Chorale for 14 years. He made
lots of items of furniture for family and friends
including the for the Harvest of Talents at Lincoln
Christian Church, which donates the money to
International Disaster Emergency Service.
Memorials may be made to the Jolly Seniors of
Lincoln Christian Church or the American Legion of
