[August 14, 2007]  (AP) A low pressure system is expected to push southeastward through the Upper Mississippi and Ohio Valleys as well as the Great Lakes on Tuesday, with its cold front extending across the Central and Northern Plains.

Showers and thunderstorms were expected over a large stretch of the country Tuesday, from the Upper Mississippi and Ohio valleys to the Great Lakes.

A cold front was expected across the Central and Northern Plains.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms were likely for the Carolinas and southern Florida, while monsoonal moisture should trigger continued showers and thunderstorms over the Four Corners.

A heat wave will continue across much of the Plains, Mississippi Valley and parts of the Desert Southwest on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states Monday ranged from a low of 30 degrees at Stanley, Idaho to a high of 121 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
