Inland flooding and strong winds were likely in southeastern parts of the state, and precipitation from the storm was expected to reach as far east as Louisiana.
Showers and thunderstorms were in the forecast from the Tennessee Valley through the
mid-Atlantic regions, as a frontal system moves eastward from the upper Mississippi Valley. Parts of the Northeast were also expected to get rain.
Temperatures in the 90s and 100s were expected to persist from the Plains through the Southeast, as a ridge of high pressure remains fixed over those regions.
Cooler temperatures, in the 70s and 80s, were expected in the Northeast, while the Southwest will likely see temperatures in the 90s and 100s. Temperatures in the Northwest were expected to hover in the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Temperatures in the lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of 31 degrees at Wisdom, Mont., to a high of 120 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
