[August 17, 2007]  (AP) Heavy rain will continue to pound southern Texas on Friday, although winds will begin to subside.

Wet weather was also expected in some parts of the Southeast, as a cold front slides through the region.

Thunderstorms were likely to form over the Carolinas in the early afternoon and develop into a line of strong storms. Most of the storms were expected to move out to sea by evening, with some remaining over Georgia and northern Florida.

Rain was also expected in the Dakotas, Montana, parts of the Southwest, Washington and Oregon.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of 35 degrees at International Falls, Minn., to a high of 121 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
