Most heavy rain will be in an area bounded by southwestern Missouri, northern Wisconsin and New Jersey, though the heaviest rain will be mostly in the Midwest.
A warm front will be a boundary between hot weather in the Southeast and much cooler weather in the Northeast. Southeastern highs will reach into the upper 90s Monday, while Northeastern highs will top out in the 70s.
Florida could see thunderstorms and heavy rain as cloud cover streams north from Hurricane Dean, which is not expected to hit the state.
Temperatures in the lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of 30 degrees at Wisdom, Mont., to a high of 117 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
