[August 22, 2007]  (AP) Widely scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected Wednesday from the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions westward through the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley and northern Great Plains.

There was the risk of severe storms, including damaging winds and isolated tornadoes, in an area stretching from eastern Wyoming and Colorado eastward through the central Plains, upper Mississippi Valley and southern Great Lakes regions.

Northern New England were expected to remain dry as high pressure remains in place.

Farther south, precipitation from Hurricane Dean was expected to reach southern Texas, triggering moderate to heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms.

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms were possible over the Rockies and Southwest. Scattered thunderstorms were expected to persist over southern Florida.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 31 degrees at Saranac Lake, N.Y., to a high of 114 degrees at Borrego, Calif.
