SPRINGFIELD -- State Sen. Bill
Brady, R-Bloomington, says the governor has cut funding for
veterans, people with disabilities and the state's poorest
residents.

In the fiscal 2008 budget plan signed Thursday, Blagojevich has
eliminated $2.2 million for the 80-bed expansion of the LaSalle
Veterans Home, $50 million for nursing homes, $40 million for
hospitals and $18 million in cost of living wage increases for human
service workers. "After weeks of delay, the governor finally acted
to implement the state budget," Brady said. "Details are sketchy,
but an initial analysis indicates basic human services were cut
severely. The cuts are going to affect not only the persons who
provide these services, but the citizens who depend on these
services. The cuts against veterans, nursing homes, hospitals and
human service providers are going to hit hard."
The 44th District senator says the governor's budget cuts cover
thousands of individual items, so lawmakers will need to closely
review his actions and budget message to determine the impact of his
recommendations.
