[August 27, 2007]  The following recalls were issued by various federal and state agencies during the week ending Aug. 25.

TOY TRAIN SETS CONTAIN LEAD 

Hampton Direct is recalling magnetic toy train sets sold nationwide from December 2005 to July 2007. The paint on the trains contains excessive amounts of lead. 

This recall involves Magnetic Alphabet and Number train sets. The train sets include a wooden engine, caboose, letters and numbers. The alphabet train set contains 28 pieces, and the number train set contains 12 pieces. Each car in the train set is 2 ½ x 2 ½ x 2 inches in size. 

Consumers should stop using and dispose of the recalled trains. Consumers of record will receive a free replacement train.

CHILDREN'S JEWELRY CONTAINS LEAD 

TOBY N.Y.C. is recalling children's metal jewelry sold nationwide from August 2006 to May 2007. The recalled metal jewelry sets contain high levels of lead. 

The three recalled jewelry sets include: a princess pink and clear crystal bead necklace and bracelet set with a painted metallic crown pendant; a pink and white pearl necklace and bracelet set with a painted metallic poodle pendant; and a pink pearl necklace, earrings and ring set. All sets are sold in a pink gift box with "TOBY & ME" printed on the front and "TOBY & ME" hangtags attached to the packaging.

CHILDREN'S CHARM BRACELETS CONTAIN LEAD 

Buy-Rite Designs Inc. is recalling children's Divine Inspiration Charm Bracelets sold nationwide from March 2004 to August 2007. The recalled jewelry contains high levels of lead. 

The recalled charm bracelets have silver-colored charms, including angels, crosses, and hearts, and clear and pink beads that hang from a silver-colored chain. 

Consumers should return the bracelets to store where purchased for a full refund

SPINNING TOPS AND PAILS CONTAIN LEAD 

Schylling Associates Inc. is recalling Thomas and Friends, Curious George and other spinning tops and tin pails sold nationwide from July 2001 to July 2002. Surface paints on the wooden handles of the tops and pails contain excessive levels of lead. 

The recalled tops and pails are primarily metal and have wooden handles. The tops are painted with Thomas and Friends, Curious George, or a circus scene. The pails are painted with Thomas and Friends, Curious George, or in a solid red or yellow color.

PAINT ON ADDRESS BOOKS AND JOURNALS CONTAIN LEAD

Martin Designs Inc. is recalling SpongeBob SquarePants™ Character address books and journals sold nationwide from June 2006 to July 2007. The paint on the metal spiral bindings of the address books and journals can contain excessive levels of lead. 

The recall involves address books and journals with SpongeBob SquarePants™ character on the front cover and a black metal spiral binding. The UPC numbers (80773007505 for the address book and 80773002260 for the journal) are printed on the back covers.

CRIB MATTRESSES CAN TRAP CHILDREN 

Stokke is recalling Sleepi Crib Foam Mattresses sold nationwide from September 2006 to March 2007. The crib mattresses are not properly sized, creating a gap, posing an entrapment hazard to young children. 

Only oval shaped Sleepi cribs with foam mattresses sold under the following model numbers are the subject of this recall: 660321, 660320, 660301,660305, 660318, 652268, 652269, 652246, 652247 and 652248. The model number can be found on the packaging and underside of the crib.

GIRLS' CLOTHING SETS SOLD BY K-MART 

K-Mart is recalling Basic Editions girls' clothing sets sold exclusively at K-Marts stores from March 2007 to May 2007. The recalled shirts have drawstrings at the waist. Children can get entangled or caught in a vehicle door and can be dragged, posing a serious risk of injury or death. 

One set has a light green screen print top with "Varsity Club Winning Attitude" text, over a white shirt, paired with turquoise cuff shorts. The second set has an orange screen print top with "Paradise University Girls Club" text, over a white shirt paired with light green knit shorts. Both sets were sold in the following girls' sizes: 4/5, 6/6X, 7/8, and 10/12. 

Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings to eliminate the hazard.

AC ADAPTERS CAN OVERHEAT 

I-O Data Device USA Inc. is recalling AC Adapters sold with Network Hard Drives sold nationwide from December 2004 to February 2007. The AC adapters can overheat or melt, posing a burn hazard. 

This recall involves all AC adapters with model number IO-ACADP1510UL. The model number can be found on the AC adapter. The AC adapters were sold with I-O Data® network hard disk drives model number UHDL-160U or UHDL-300U. The model number for the network hard disk drive is located on a label at the base of the console.

CHAIRS SOLD BY J.C. PENNEY CAN COLLAPSE 

J.C. Penney is recalling Windsor Spindle-Back Side Chairs sold nationwide by J.C. Penney from April 2006 to June 2007. The wood stretchers can split while in use and the chairs can collapse, posing a fall hazard. 

This recall involves the Windsor Spindle-Back side chair sets. The set is comprised of four chairs made of solid hardwood. Each chair measures 36 inches high. The backs and legs are painted white and the seat is a natural wood color. 

Consumers should contact J.C. Penney at (888) 333-6063 anytime to obtain free replacement chairs or return the chairs to their closest J.C. Penney store for a full refund.

CHILDREN'S BOOKS POSE CHOKING HAZARD 

St. Martin's Press, LLC is recalling Priddy "Trucks" Shaker Teether Books sold nationwide from January 2006 to June 2007. Small pieces of the teether can break off, posing a choking hazard to young children. 

The recalled cloth teether book entitled "trucks" has a yellow dump truck on the front cover on a blue background. Attached to the top of the book is a yellow rattle with a green teether attached on the right side of the rattle and an orange teether attached to the left side of the rattle.

BACKPACK BLOWERS POSE FIRE HAZARD

Shindaiwa Inc. is recalling Shindaiwa Backpack Blowers sold nationwide from September 2005 to May 2007. The muffler's outer shell can melt allowing exhaust gas to exit from the bottom or back side of the muffler. The exhaust gas may cause damage to the fuel tank creating a possible fire hazard..

This recall involves Shindaiwa Models EB630 and EB630RT. All models up to serial #7025018 are included.  The backpack blowers weight approximately 24 pounds and include Serial Numbers through February 2007 production (S/N 702XXXX) which are located on the side label. These machines are blue with a red label that reads, Shindaiwa.

BAR STOOLS CAN COLLAPSE

Calligaris USA Inc. is recalling ICE Bar Stools sold nationwide from November 2005 to September 2006. The seat on the bar stools can detach, causing the consumer to fall and suffer injuries.

This recall involves Calligaris bar stools with a contemporary design. The stools have a black or chrome metal base, a low-back, and plastic seats that come in orange, black, white, green, or clear. The words "ICE" and "Calligaris" are engraved on the underside of the seat.

Consumers should  return the stools to the store where purchased for a merchandise exchange or a full refund of the purchase price.
