Scattered showers and thunderstorms were predicted throughout the Southeast and mid-Atlantic, with more serious rain and thunderstorms over New England.
Along the Gulf Coast, daytime heat was to bring scattered showers and thunderstorms from Texas through the panhandle of Florida.
Some scattered showers and thunderstorms could pop up in the afternoon over the Southwest and Great Basin.
Much of the West should remain quite warm, with the Southwest and California rising into the 90s and 100s. The Northwest and interior West will see temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The Southeast will rise into the 80s, 90s and some 100s, while the Northeast will see temperatures in the 70s and 80s.
Temperatures in the lower 48 states on Wednesday ranged from a low of 27 degrees at Wisdom, Mont., to a high of 119 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
