Heavy snow was forecast across the high elevations of New Mexico and Arizona in the morning, with snow expanding into Colorado and Utah in the afternoon and evening, as a low pressure system slowly dissolves over the region. Some peaks in Colorado could get a foot or more of snow overnight.
Rain, sleet, freezing rain and snow were creating a messy start to the work week from the
Mid-Atlantic northward. Meanwhile, the Ohio Valley was expected to see heavy rain and possibly thunderstorms as a cold front lingers across the region.
Clear skies were forecast in the West as high pressure continues to build over California. Temperatures along the West Coast were expected to be close to normal or even a few degrees above as a jet stream moves north into Canada.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Sunday ranged from a low of minus 27 degrees at Cook, Minn., to a high of 89 degrees at Edinburg, Texas.
