A cold front passing over the coastal Northwest will bring rain to the coast and heavy snow to the Cascades. Snow was likely to descend into northern California, with significant accumulation expected in the mountains along the coast.
Elsewhere in the West, it was predicted to be clear and cold. The Rockies were expected to see cloudy conditions and snow on Friday as a weak low pressure system develops over Colorado.
Snow also was expected to develop in Oklahoma and Kansas, already hit hard by an ice storm earlier this week.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 86 degrees at Punta Gorda, Fla., to a high of minus 23 degrees at Agassiz, Minn.
