[December 18, 2007]  (AP) More wet and cold weather was on tap for the West early Tuesday as a series of Pacific storm systems push through, while much of the East embraced a milder day.

Another batch of moisture was set to sock the West Coast into the Rockies, with the heaviest rain expected over northern and central California.

Up to 3 feet of snow was possible above 3,500 feet to 4,000 feet across the California and Oregon coastal ranges, southern Cascades and the Sierras.

Rain showers were expected to spread across southern California and the Four Corners region by Wednesday. More coastal rain and interior snow was forecast Wednesday from the northern California to the Northwest.

In the East, a stationary front should keep snow over portions of New York through Wednesday. Otherwise, high pressure was to settle in across the Eastern U.S., providing drier and warmer weather Tuesday, except over northern New England. Some light rain was predicted for the Southeast Coast.

In the midsection of the nation, a trough over the Plains will slowly move east Tuesday and Wednesday. As it meets up with Gulf moisture, expect scattered light rain developing over portions of the Deep South and Tennessee Valley.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Monday ranged from a low of minus 20 degrees at Gunnison, Colo., to a high of 70 degrees at Key West, Fla.
