The system that pounded Northern and Central California on Tuesday was to continue moving southeast, dumping heavy rain and mountain snow on Southern California.
The cold front from another system was expected to push ashore around midday Wednesday and bring more heavy coastal rain and mountain snow to the Pacific Northwest and Northern California into Thursday. As the storm moves inland, moderate to heavy snow is expected across the northern and central Rockies.
A low pressure system over the upper Great Lakes and Ohio Valley combined with moist air from the Gulf was forecast to bring light rain and snow from the Gulf coast to the Great Lakes on Wednesday. By Thursday morning, the system was expected to produce more coastal rain and inland snow across the Northeast and central Appalachians.
Light rain was forecast across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic coasts Wednesday, while light rain and freezing rain were expected in the Dakotas and upper Midwest.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Tuesday ranged from a low of minus 17 degrees at Whitefield, N.H., to a high of 80 degrees at McAllen, Texas.
