[December 29, 2007]  (AP) A winter storm packing rain and snow was expected to move out of the Great Lakes and into the Northeast on Saturday and bringing rain and thunderstorms to the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.

In the West, rain and high elevation snow was expected in the Northwest and California. The hardest hit region was expected to be Oregon and Northern California.

Various winter storm warnings are in effect for the Intermountain West and Great Basin, where several inches of snow was expected.

Temperatures in the Northeast were expected rise into the 30s and 40s, while the Southeast was expected to see temperatures in the 60s and 70s.

Highs in the northern Plains were expected to rise only into the 10s and 20s, and the Northwest was expected to see temperatures in the 30s and 40s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of minus 27 degrees at Gunnison, Colo., to a high of 85 degrees at Fort Myers, Fla.
