[February 26, 2007]  The recent meeting of Lincoln AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary to Post 71 heard reports from the service chairmen as follows:

  • 1st Vice President/Membership Chairman Ruth Haak reported that the auxiliary has received a 100 percent renewed certificate from the year 2006 and that the auxiliary is again 100 percent renewed for 2007. They draped the charter for deceased member Fern Mitchell with a ceremony.

  • 2nd Vice President/Child Welfare Chairman Louise Cobb reported a total evaluation of $78.

  • 3rd Vice President/Community Service Chairman Doris Langenbahn reported that her project had an evaluation of $1,281.

  • Chaplain Louise Cobb reported that four get well and sympathy cards had been sent.

  • Commander Arnold Haak, AMVETS Post 71, requested the Auxiliary join them for a few minutes.

  • John Sutton, a very well-known celebrity of Lincoln for all his many hours of volunteering around the community -- and for the AMVETS he has given to maintaining the two signs in All Veterans Park -- received a plaque of gratitude.

  • Americanism Chairman Dorothy Sanders reported an evaluation of $1,098. She also reported on one youth volunteer who has $113 evaluation.

  • Hospital Chairman Dorothy Sanders reported her evaluation as being $1,360.

  • Scholarship Chairman Ruth Haak reported a donation to the Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Fern Mitchell was sent.

The delivery of Christmas gifts to all the veterans in the local nursing homes was set.

Louise Cobb, widow of Everett, related to the AMVETS and Auxiliary the honor that was bestowed upon Everett and 13 of his buddies at a memorial ceremony of his boat LST325.

Gifts to veterans

On Dec. 18, Lincoln AMVETS Post 71 and its Ladies Auxiliary delivered 41 gifts to the veterans residing in the three nursing homes in Lincoln. This has been an annual project for the past several years.

Gifts were presented to 40 male veterans and one female veteran.

AMVETS members have participated in three military funeral burial details.

A reminder to all veterans, loved ones of veterans and even friends that the personalized bricks are still for sale. Several have been purchased for Christmas gifts, and they do provide a most heartwarming gift for any occasion. Each brick is only $35. Forms can be secured from the container at All Veterans Park or by calling 217-732-8829. Get yours now so they can be laid in the spring or our next laying in the Veterans Honor Roll surrounding the memorial monument in All Veterans Park. The forms are self-explanatory. Get your orders in and join the 2,100 now in the Veterans Honor Roll.

Dates were picked for the next few meetings: May 21, 2007, July 16, 2007, and Sept. 17, 2007.
