Main issues facing the Lincoln City
Council currently:
1. Economic Development:
We can't stop with the new
West-side developments like Goody's/Dollar Tree, Robert's/
Sysco, Wal-Mart Super Center, Beck's Oil, Culver's, Coy's
relocation, expansion of Midwest Records Storage, and a
possibly new home for Graue Inc. The Economic Development
Partnership (EDP) must continue to aggressively seek out new
developments. The current passage of the Logan County
Comprehensive Plan and implementation of GIS will assist
prospective developers and the EDP in making important
business decisions.
2. Job growth:
Job Growth and Economic
Development go hand-in-hand with one another. Two of the
businesses listed above employee or will employee a couple
hundred plus. This is a step in the right direction, but we
need to continue our diligent efforts to bring in more
higher-paying jobs to this City. We have never been able to
fully recover from the jobs lost when LDC closed in 09/02.

3. Equipment needs for Fire
and Street and Alley Departments:
Due to tough economic times
over the past several years, lack of available grants, and a
focus on other priorities, some major equipment purchases
have not been in the budgets of Fire and Street and Alley.
There are several equipment items that are now in need of
replacement. A plan, both short-term and long-term, needs to
be developed so these items are replaced and when there are
any future equipment purchases make sure they are replaced
more timely. The Fire Department has fire trucks that are
aging and are becoming very costly to maintain and repair.
The Street Department needs are not as costly, but are
numerous. The Street Department needs to replace a 2WD
pickup, two flatbed trucks, 2 salt spreader drop boxes, and
11-foot snow plow to name a few.
4. Dilapidated Properties:
The City has been effective
in getting several properties torn down. However, we have
several left remaining on our list. We need to look at this
list and see what can be done so these properties come down.
Other comments:
We have worked together with other
local government entities and brought in several new businesses and
some existing businesses have decided to expand and now have new
homes. We have added jobs. We have a balanced budget. These all were
goals of mine when I ran for Alderman four years ago. With the hard
work of the Council, we have moved in the right direction. I'm
excited to be part of what is happening to Lincoln and would be even
more excited if I continued my work as a representative of Ward 5
and the City of Lincoln for another term. Thanks to everyone who has
supported me the last four years.
