[July 10, 2007]  (AP) A low-pressure system lingering over the South early Tuesday was expected to bring more heavy rain and thunderstorms from eastern Texas to the Georgia coast and into Florida.

While the storms caused flooding in parts of the South and the Plains, rain was welcome in parched Florida.

Skies were forecast to clear in the Northeast, and temperatures were expected to begin climbing, though highs were to remain below normal for early July.

Temperatures were expected to simmer in the West as high pressure develops over the region. California was expected to hit triple digits, and temperatures in the upper 90s were forecast across Washington and Oregon. The hottest areas in the Southwest could surpass 120 degrees.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states Monday ranged from a low of 6 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 119 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
