FREMONT, Calif.
(AP) -- A Silicon Valley couple is offering a $1,000 reward in a dogged hunt for their beloved pet, a miniature English bulldog named Ava who was to have been ring bearer in their upcoming wedding.

Stephanie Martin and Ashley Messier's 4-month-old puppy disappeared June 24, when a man posing as the owner picked up the dog at the American Animal Care Center. The dognapper picked up Ava four days before the couple was scheduled to return for her.
The brazen heist was caught on surveillance tape, which showed that the man did not produce identification. Messier had prepaid, and the thief even charged a bag of dog food to Messier's credit card.
The kennel owners did not return calls seeking comment. Fremont Police Detective Bill Veteran said investigators circulated photos from the surveillance tapes but still have no suspects.
Messier -- a salesman who estimates he has spent $800 on gas and fliers in his nightly searches
-- said he will give $1,000 to anyone who can deliver Ava.

The couple, who postponed their wedding because of the incident, said the kennel owner offered to pay for the "value of the dog." But Ava's masters say she's irreplaceable.
"She was a total cuddler," said Martin, a registered nurse. "I loved watching her sleep. She slept on her back and snored as loud as Ashley."
