[July 23, 2007]  (AP) Forecasters predicted thunderstorms in Florida and high winds in the Rockies on Monday, while much of the West Coast was expected to be warm and dry.

Much of the eastern United States was expected to be slightly cloudy and showers and thunderstorms were expected in the eastern Carolinas and parts of New England.

But Florida was expected to see the heaviest rain, with severe thunderstorms in parts.

Monsoon winds were expected in the Rockies and the intermountain region was at risk for wildfires sparked by dry thunderstorms. Light rain was expected from the Dakotas southward to the Gulf Coast.

On the West Coast, clear skies were expected in California, with a few clouds in the Northwest west of the Cascades.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of 37 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont., to a high of 120 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
