[July 25, 2007]  (AP) Scattered showers and thunderstorms, some severe, will form over parts of the northern Plains, northern Rockies and high Plains on Wednesday, with large hail and damaging winds a possibility.

A low pressure system that has sat over the Ohio Valley, central Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic regions isn't expected to move, and showers and thunderstorms are likely for regions stretching from the Mississippi Valley to the Eastern seaboard.

Strong to severe storms, which could include hail and high winds, are expected later Wednesday in the Ohio Valley and parts of the Southeast.

Moderate to strong thunderstorms are also likely in the mid-Missouri Valley, intermountain West and southwest Rockies.

Temperatures are likely to reach the 90s and 100s by afternoon in the intermountain West, Southwest and Great Plains regions. Highs in the 70s are expected in the Great Lakes and central Appalachians regions.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 44 degrees at Crater Lake, Ore., to a high of 117 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
