[July 27, 2007]  (AP) Forecasters predicted stormy weather in several parts of the country Friday, including the Appalachians, where intense storms packing hail and gusty winds were expected.

Scattered thunderstorms were expected across the East, with the most severe in the central Appalachians.

Heavy rain was forecast for western Louisiana and south Texas, where flooding was expected.

Severe thunderstorms were also expected in the northern Plains and upper Midwest.

In the West, thunderstorms were expected from the Four Corners states through Montana, with some flash flooding possible.

Farther west, clear skies were expected along the coast with the exception of the Northwest, where foggy conditions were possible.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of 39 degrees at Berthoud Pass, Colo., to a high of 117 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
