[July 28, 2007]  (AP) Forecasters predicted thunderstorms from the Appalachians to the Southeast and triple-digit temperatures in the Southwest on Saturday, but dry, moderate conditions were in store for the West Coast.

Heavy rain was also expected in southeast Texas and Louisiana, aggravating flooding problems there.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms were expected in the Southwest, Great Basin and the Rockies. Flash flooding was possible in parts of the Southwest.

Warm temperatures were expected to continue in parched Idaho and western Montana, but the West Coast states were expected to stay dry and relatively cool.

In northern New England, afternoon showers were likely.

High temperatures were expected to reach into the 90s and 100s in the Southwest, and the Southeast was expected to experience highs in the 80s and 90s.

The Northeast was expected to see highs in the 70s and 80s, and the Northwest will likely see high temperatures ranging from the 70s to the 90s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 40 degrees at Mineral, Calif., to a high of 120 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
