[June 13, 2007]  (AP) Forecasters predicted cooler temperatures in both the West and Northeast on Wednesday, while rain and thunderstorms were expected in the Plains and along the Gulf Coast.

Cooler temperatures were expected in the West as a cold front moves through the region, spawning widespread rain and snow in the mountains and scattered thunderstorms from the Pacific Northwest to the High Plains. Snow may become heavy at times.

Rain and thunderstorms were expected across the northern and central Plains and upper Mississippi Valley, with strong to severe thunderstorms in the northern Plains. Large hail and damaging wind were possible. A tornado threat may also develop in the Dakotas.

In South Florida and along the Gulf Coast, isolated thunderstorms were likely.

Sunny skies were expected in the East, and temperatures would likely fall several degrees across the Northeast and northern Mid-Atlantic.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 32 degrees at Montevideo, Minn., to a high of 109 degrees at Bullhead City, Ariz.
