[June 14, 2007]  (AP) A storm trekked eastward through the Northern Rockies and into the Northern Plains early Thursday, while high pressure off the Carolina coast was to keep the East clear.

Heavy snow warnings were posted for the Northern Rockies, and rain was predicted over eastern Montana and Wyoming, as well as North Dakota.

Severe thunderstorms were forming across the Upper Mississippi Valley, the Great Lakes region and parts of the Ohio Valley. Frequent lightning, strong winds, large hail and tornadoes were possible.

Scattered showers also were predicted along the central Gulf Coast, with more widespread showers and thunderstorms over southern Florida. Some areas of Florida can expect several inches of rain.

Much of the East from the Southern Plains to the mid-Atlantic could have temperatures rise into the 80s and 90s, while the Northeast could see temperatures in the 60s, 70s and 80s. The Rockies were predicted to stay in the 40s and 50s, while California may see temperatures in the 60s at the coast to the 90s in the deserts.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Wednesday ranged from a low of 30 degrees at Hibbing, Minn., to a high of 110 degrees at Bullhead City, Ariz.
