A cold front was moving through the Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee valleys, as well as the Great Lakes region, pushing showers and thunderstorms eastward.
Much cooler air was forecast to filter in following the cold front throughout the Midwest and Great Lakes. Tuesday's highs were expected only in the upper 60s and 70s, plunging as much as 20 degrees from Monday's highs.
Out West, another dry and sunny day was in store across inland areas. The Desert Southwest should see temperatures soaring into the triple digits once again. A gradual cooling trend was taking place over the California Coast.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Monday ranged from a low of 24 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 117 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
