While the rain could cause more flooding, some swollen rivers could begin to subside.
Rain and thunderstorms are also likely in the southern and central Plains, the Mississippi Valley, the Mid-Atlantic region, the Carolinas and parts of Kansas and Missouri. Storms will begin to move into the Southeast later in the day.
A few showers could appear in the Northeast, as a front that brought thunderstorms earlier in the week continues to linger off the coast.
Wet weather is expected to continue in the Northwest, but temperatures are likely to heat up as the system dissipates.
Temperatures in the lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of 34 degrees at Bryce Canyon, Utah, to a high of 115 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
