[June 30, 2007]  (AP) Forecasters predicted light rain in the Plains and Great Lakes and heavier rain in Texas on Saturday, while cooler temperatures were in store for the West Coast.

Rain was expected from the Plains to the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys, with stronger downfalls in parts of Texas. Some showers and isolated thunderstorms were possible in the northern Great Lakes.

In the East, light rain showers were expected in Maine, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the eastern Carolinas.

A cooling trend was expected across much of the West Coast and light rain was expected in western Washington.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 32 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 121 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
