Small stream flood advisory for Logan County in central Illinois until 5:45am CST Saturday

At 5:43pm CST Friday, due to the combination of rapid snowmelt and rainfall over the past week, several small streams and creeks were producing minor flooding across parts of Logan, northeastern Menard and western DeWitt counties.

Kickapoo Creek in Lawndale has been at or just out of its banks, and several rural roads have been affected due to the flooding in this area. Additional areas that may see some minor flooding over the next 12 hours, especially in rural areas, include Lincoln, Atlanta, Beason, Chestnut, Elkhart, Hartsburg, Middletown, Mount Pulaski, Broadwell and Hallsville.

Farmlands along the banks of creeks, streams and other low-lying areas are also subject to flooding. Do not drive into flooded areas.

Be especially cautious at night, when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Do not drive into areas where water covers the road. When water begins rising, do not stay in areas subject to flooding. It takes only a few inches of swiftly moving water to cause your vehicle to float away. It may not be easy to judge the water depth until it is too late.

Report any flooding to your local emergency manager or the nearest law enforcement agency for relay to the National Weather Service.
