John and Sherry Schonauer, their sons Alex (14) and
Andrew (17), and Matthew and Theresa Young were traveling together.
They were northbound on I-39 at mile marker 24 ½ when their vehicle
was in a head-on crash at 6:13 p.m.
Sherry Schonauer was the driver of the 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe the
families were riding in. The Tahoe lost control on the icy road,
went through median striking head-on a southbound Honda Accord
driven by Frances Daniels, age 21 of White Bear Lake, MN.
Sherry was uninjured. According to the Sheriff’s report Minonk
Ambulance initially transported all of the passengers in the
Schonauer vehicle to Saint James Hospital in Pontiac. Their
conditions are unknown, though it is believed that two may have been
transferred to other hospitals due to the seriousness of their
injuries.
The driver of the Accord was transported to Bromenn Hospital in
Bloomington by El Paso ambulance.
Sgt. Claudin of Woodford County Sheriff’s Department. said that
Schonauer would be ticketed for driving too fast for conditions.
