National Lutheran Schools Week celebrated locally

[March 07, 2007]  Zion Lutheran School in Lincoln will conduct two community open houses and sponsor several special events this week in conjunction with National Lutheran Schools Week.

The first open house, for families considering enrolling their children in grades preschool through eighth, will be Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The early childhood open house, for prospective preschool and kindergarten families, will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Zion is open to families of all faiths and backgrounds.

Other National Lutheran Schools Week activities include theme days all week, a family breakfast at 7:30 on Wednesday, a science and art fair at 6:30 on Thursday night, and a concert by Christian songwriter-musician Dave Britton at 1:45 Friday afternoon.

Student teachers Chelsea Durk and Andrea Gibson will be installed at the Zion Lutheran Church 8 a.m. worship service Sunday, with a reception to follow, to round out the week's activities.

Zion joins the 3,500 congregations, 2,500 schools, 18,000 teachers and 280,000 students involved in Lutheran school ministries as it celebrates National Lutheran Schools Week with the theme "Lutheran Schools: A Great Place to Grow."
