SPRINGFIELD -- State Sen. Larry Bomke,
R-Springfield, is sponsoring two new bills that assist and honor
members of the armed forces of the United States. Both bills
unanimously passed out of the Illinois Senate and now go to the
House for approval.

Senate Bill 1438 defers the expiration of the driver's license
of a member of the armed forces, the spouse of the member or a
dependent child living with the member, while they are on active
duty outside of Illinois.
Senate Bill 1575 creates two new license plates to honor
veterans. The first plate is issued to military men and women who
have earned the Iraq Campaign Medal, and the second plate are for
those who have earned the Afghanistan Campaign Medal.

"We want to help veterans and their families take care of
business when they are out fighting for our freedoms," said Bomke.
"I'm proud to sponsor these bills to make life a little easier for
the soldiers."
Bomke also explained that there are a number of plates honoring
veterans but none to honor the veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. He
said this is why he decided to sponsor Senate Bill 1575.
