May 4  Drive Thru Pork Chop Dinner.  Come on out to the Farm Bureau, in Lincoln, to have a wonderful pork chop dinner.  The United Way is setting up in their parking lot, from 4 PM – 7 PM to serve delicious pork chops.  The dinner will be $6 per person.  Call 217-735-4499 for more information.

May 5, 9, 12, 16, 19, 23, 26, 30  Lincoln Farmer’s Market.  Come out to Latham Park from 7 AM – 12 PM on Wednesdays and Saturdays starting May 5 to view and purchase the finest produce local crowers have to offer.  If you need more information, please contact 217-732-6962.

May 5  Car Wash.  The Goldwing Chapter P will be at the Woodlawn Car Wash for Motorcycle Awareness Month.  They’ll be selling Hot Dogs, Chips, and Pop proceeds go to the Cancer -  Relay For Life.  The event starts at 10:00 a.m.  Rain Date is May 12, 2007.

May 5   Plant Sale  Zion Lutheran School (1600 Woodlawn Road) is sponsoring a plant sale from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Hanging baskets, geraniums and impatiens from Connie’s Country Greenhouse will be available.

May 6  Foster Grandparent Celebration.  The CIEDC Foster Grandparent Program celebrates 40 years at its recognition dinner this year at the Maple Club in Lincoln. Reservations Required. Foster Grandparents volunteer in classrooms all over central Illinois. The program is open to anyone 60 years of age or better. May 7  Blood Drive.  Come give the gift of life at the Lincoln Masonic Center (located at 2022 N. Kickapoo Street) from Noon until 6:00pm.  This blood drive is sponsored by Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln.  All blood collected at this blood drive supports Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

May 12 & 26  Historic Building Walk.  Main Street Lincoln is celebrating National Historic Preservation Month with a Historic Building Walk in Downtown Lincoln.  On May 12^th, you’ll meet your guide at 11 AM at the entrance to the Arcade Building (513 Pulaski St.), and check out the Arcade Building, Sherwin Williams, Shay Parking Lot, and the Main Street Lincoln building.  You’ll enjoy a fun, fact-filled walk featuring the histories of James McCarthy’s Buildings.  The tour ends at 229 S. Kickapoo (Main Street Lincoln), where they’ll be having an Open House with Refreshments.  The tour begins again on May 26^th at 6:30 PM.

May 12  YMCA Kids Day Event.  The Lincoln Area YMCA will host a family fun event from 12:30 to 3:00 at the Y-Activity Center on Wyatt Avenue.  Come enjoy kids games, contests, prize drawings, sports fun, bake sale, chili cook off, and a special outdoor bingo event.  Children must be accompanied by parent.  For more information, please call 217-735-3915.

May 12  Young Eagles Day.  The Heritage In-Flight Museum will be holding a Young Eagles Day at the Logan County Airport.  The EAA Young Eagles program was launched in 1992 to give interested young people, ages 8 - 17, an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers. Call 217-732-3333 for more information.

May 19  Elkhart Spring Festival. May 19  Windswept Manor Open House.  A public tour and reception will be held at the Windswept Manor Bed and Breakfast (227 N. May 19  Armed Forces Day.  Come over to the Logan County Genealogical and Historical Society (114 N. Chicago St., Lincoln, IL) to enjoy the Armed Forces Day Open House and book signing.  It will be held from 11 AM – 3 PM.  We will be featuring "This Is My Story" Vol. 2 veteran's book.  The book was published for the purpose of preserving the names and military information about Logan County Veterans.  The book includes 365 pages of veteran stories and pictures.  Veteran Book Committee Co - Chairman are Phylis Bryson and Carol Radespiel.  We will also be featuring a book entitled "Logan County During the Civil War" by Bill Donath.

May 29 – Jul 21  Lincoln Public Library District Summer Reading Program 2007 Mission READ: to the Library and Beyond! Will begin with a sign-up week May 29 – June 2.  During sign-p week a  “Library Astronaut Training” will be held.  Children will be able to visit stations to “test” their outer-space abilities.  Stations will include “Moon Rocks,” “Manipulation,” “Control Station,” and “Moon Walk.”  All astronauts will receive a certificate of Completion in the “Library Astronaut School” and get a picture taken in the “rocket.”  The entire Summer Reading Program will run through July 21^st.

Jun 2  “Route 66 Trail-Breaking” National Trails Day.  Be a part of history on National Trails Day 2007.  Bicyclists and other “trail-breakers” will traverse the entire 369 miles of Illinois’ new Route 66 Trail, a route of quieter roads and trails showing off the best of the old “Mother Road.”  The event will highlight bike tourism on the Route 66 Trail while giving a boost for road and trail improvements along the way.  How it Works:  Bicyclists and other users will each ride one of the 13 legs of the Route 66 Trail, simultaneously covering the entire distance of the route.  They will converge at six different Route 66 towns, where ceremonies will be held at noon.  The segments from Lincoln are Lincoln to Bloomington (46 Miles) or Lincoln to Springfield (39 Miles).  Find out more about this event from the flier included in your calendar!

Jun 3  Goldwing Chapter P Golf Outing.  The Goldwing Chapter P will be holding their Annual Golf Outing at the Atlanta Golf Course.  Tee Off is at 3 PM, with dinner to follow.

Jun 4  Blood Drive.  Come give the gift of life at the Lincoln Masonic Center (located at 2022 N. Kickapoo Street) from Noon until 6:00pm.  This blood drive is sponsored by First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln.  All blood collected at this blood drive supports Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Jun 4 – July 14  Teen Summer Reading Program.  Lincoln Public Library District’s Teen Summer Reading Program begins June 4 and runs through July 14.  Teens may register at the Youth Services desk, complete logs, and participate in drawings for prizes.

Jun 7  Magician Troy Roark. Starting at 10 AM, Magician Troy Roark will perform at the Lincoln Public Library.  Call 732-5732 to register.  Sponsored by Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation.

Jun 9 & 10  Broadwell’s 150^th Birthday Celebration.  The Village of Broadwell will be celebrating their 150^th Birthday on June 9 & 10, 2007 with fun and excitement.  Ernie Edwards, owner and manager of the Pig Hip Museum, has promised a surprise for guests.  Could it be the world famous P.H.S???  Ernie has also invited everyone to share in his birthday cake.  More details on this event will be coming soon.

Jun 19 – 21  A State of Freedom: Abraham Lincoln and Illinois in a Nation of Slavery.  This seminar for Illinois Middle and High School Teachers will be presented by Paul E. Gleason and Ron J. Sep 1 Steak Sandwich Fundraiser Sale. Habitat for Humanity will sell steak sandwiches at the Lincoln IGA from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday of Labor Day weekend. This is a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity of Logan County.

Sep 14 – 16  Abraham Lincoln National Railsplitting Contest.  37^th Annual festival features a Bluegrass concert downtown at Scully Park on Friday night, and a Civil War Ball at Lincoln College on Saturday night. Fun and educational event for all ages – rail splitting, corn shucking, tomahawk throwing, pioneer village, antique car and tractors, historical displays, Lincoln presentations, quilt show, crafters, flea market, kids games, food vendors and much more. Oct 13 Habitat for Humanity Annual Recognition Dinner / Dance. Habitat for Humanity will hold the dinner/dance at the American Legion on 5th Street in Lincoln. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner is served at 6:00, and the recognition program and the dance are at 7:00. Music is provided by The Turner Trio. In addition to recognizing those who have been significant supporters of Habitat during the year, this event is also a fund raiser for Habitat. Tickets may be purchased in advance at A.G. Logan County Meetings

May 3  Goldwing Chapter P.  The Goldwing Chapter P will be holding their staff meeting at the Blue Dog Inn at 6 p.m.

May 3  GROW Meeting.  GROW is starting back up in a new location.  Starting May 3, 2007 at 6:30 PM.  Their new location is at the Abraham Lincoln Hospital, 315 Eighth St., in Conference Room C (in the basement).  Meetings will be every Thursday evening.

May 10  Goldwing Chapter P Meeting.  The Goldwing Chapter P will be holding their regular meeting at Bonanza Restaurant beginning at 6 PM.  The meeting itself will begin at 7.

May 21 LCGHS Meeting.  Logan County Genealogical and Historical Society will meet May 21, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at 114 N. Chicago St. in Lincoln, Il.  Bill Wilson will present a power point on "Forts and Blockhouses of Illinois".  He will stress the ones in Logan County.  Visitors are welcome.  Refreshments will be served.  West Lincoln and Broadwell Townships will be featured in the next Society newsletter.  The information is also being collected for future historical reference and should be submitted by May 15, 2007 so it can be included in the next newsletter.
