Light to moderate rain was to continue across the Northeast, tapering off Tuesday night as a cold front moves offshore.
Some rain may mix with snow showers over northern New England and higher elevations. The southern portion of the front should bring rain with scattered thunderstorms from the
Mid-Atlantic through the Ohio and Tennessee valleys, as well as portions of the Deep South.
The strong cold front that pushed ashore in the West on Monday was forecast to continue eastward, producing a large area of rain and mountain snow from the Pacific Northwest to the northern Plains.
Areas of heavy snow was forecast for northern Idaho and western Montana. High west and northwest winds with gusts over 65 mph were possible across the northern Plains.
Another warm and dry day was in store for the Southwest and south-central states. Daytime temperatures were expected in the 80s in the desert Southwest.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Monday ranged from a low of 7 degrees at Big Piney, Wyo., to a high of 90 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
