[November 16, 2007]  (AP) Rain, snow and cold temperatures were forecast Friday for the Northeast. The most intense precipitation was expected along the Canadian border, where some high-elevation areas could end up with more than a foot of snow. Heavy snow was also anticipated along the southern shores of the Great Lakes as lake-effect snow develops.

The Northwest was expecting rain as a cold front turns stationary over Oregon. Temperatures throughout the region were projected to be relatively warm. Rainy weather was expected to spread into Idaho throughout the day and possibly dip into Northern California.

Clear skies were forecast across the nation's heartland. A few showers were possible in the Southwest.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Thursday ranged from a low of 3 degrees at Kremmling, Colo., to a high of 92 degrees at Thermal, Calif.
