The man was southbound on Route 4 near Ackerman Road,
driving a black '97 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck, when a 16-year-old
Auburn male northbound in a black 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix crossed
into the southbound lane.
The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene by the
Sangamon County Coroner.
The Auburn youth was transported to St. John's Hospital by American
Ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.
Circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
The names were being withheld pending notification of family
members.
The Illinois State Police took charge of the scene. They were
assisted by Sangamon County Sheriff's Department, Sangamon County
coroner, Auburn Police Department, Thayer Police Department, Auburn
Fire Department and American Ambulance.
