Lake-effect snow in the Great Lakes and Northeast was expected to taper off, but strong winds were anticipated to stick around. After a cold morning in the Southeast, temperatures were forecast to climb to the upper 60s and 70s, with mostly sunny skies.
More rain and high elevation snow was expected from the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies eastward to the northern Plains as another storm system moves ashore. A cold front over the Intermountain West was forecast to weaken significantly.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms were forecast for Texas' coast. The rain could extend into the lower Mississippi Valley and portions of the Southeast.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Friday ranged from a low of 3 degrees at Kremmling, Colo., to a high of 92 degrees at Thermal, Calif.
