[November 21, 2007]  (AP) The busiest travel day of year dawned with thunderstorms stretching from the Ohio Valley to Texas, snow in the Rockies and unseasonably warm weather from the Mid-Atlantic to the Southeast.

Rain was predicted to fall in the Ohio Valley on Wednesday, and snow was forecast over in the upper Mississippi Valley and parts of the Great Lakes.

In the Northeast, a mix of rain, snow and freezing rain was moving over the Northeast, with winter storm watches in effect for northern New England.

Temperatures will drop significantly in the Plains and northern regions of the West. The Northern Rockies will only rise into the 20s and 30s, while the Central Plains and Northern Plains will see temperatures in the 30s. The Northeast will rise into the 30s and 40s.

Several inches of new snow was predicted in the central Rockies, with snow advisories in effect for northern Colorado in anticipation.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Tuesday ranged from a low of 4 degrees at Polebridge, Mont., to a high of 90 degrees at Pecos, Texas.
