Tunes 4 the Troops was an idea of a 15-year-old Tennessee native, Kaylee Radzyminski. In her Sea Cadet program, she had talked to
troops from overseas. "Their biggest request was for more CDs and
DVDs to watch," says Kaylee. "If one of the troops had one CD, it
was shared by all in the camp, and it got wore out or there wasn’t
enough to go around." Her idea was to collect used CDs and DVDs from
her friends and then send them to troops in other parts of the
world, such as Iraq and Afghanistan. From there, the idea grew, and
Kaylee has a goal of collecting half a million CDs and DVDs by
Christmas 2008. As of September 2007 she had collected 97,000. The
Elkhart Festival Association will have a collection booth on the
main street Saturday and then have a collection point in town at
Horsefeathers/Wild Hare Cafe. The association’s goal is to collect
over 150 CDs and DVDs.
